Mount Scorsone will begin near to the Paternò Case Forestali, from there, through the magnificent Cubania wood – Black Pines, Beechs, Marples and Oaks tree – we will reach the eastern edge of the Valle del Bove. The view opens over the entire Valley, considered by volcanologists a special site for the research on the volcano, as it was formed 8,000 years ago. This panoramic point offers views of the ancient geological formations of the Rocca Musarra and Capra. Once we will then reach the wood of Monte Scorsone, we will make a tour inside the crater. The hike will continue across the dense chestnut wood touched by the 1979 lava flow, the itinerary will end at Case Paternò.
The length of the route is about 8 km. Short but technically demanding.
This itinerary involves a moderate difficulty level, as we will hike on trails and forest tracks.
Suggested equipment: Hiking shoes, rainjacket, windjacket, backpack, sticks, a spare t-shirt.
